Dry Needling

Dry needling or medical acupuncture therapy uses acupuncture needles to target muscular pain and dysfunction associated with overuse, trauma or chronic conditions such as tendinopathy.

Needles are used to relax muscles fibres, reduce pain and restore normal function.

Why Dry Needling?

Muscles and soft tissue are involved in most common physical injuries and ailments. Dry needling is a targeted therapy which works on specific problem areas to alleviate pain and improve the recovery process. It can be applied as a single therapy or combined with massage to give a more encompassing treatment.

Dry needling can be used to treat tennis & golfers elbow, neck pain, tension headaches, excessive muscle tension, sprains & strains, plantar fasciitis and reduced flexibility.

For your initial consultation, you will need to book at least 45 minutes. In this time a full case history will be taken to gain an understanding of your symptoms and complaints. The practice of dry needling will then be explained to you in detail, highlighting any risks and discussing what the expected results may be.

Once you are happy to proceed, acupuncture needles will be used to target specific problem or trigger point areas in your muscles. These may be at the point of pain or in an area of referred pain. Different needling techniques will be used depending on the muscle being treated and the desired outcome.

At the end of your treatment, a comparative assessment may take place. You will be advised on any further stretching or strengthening you can do to further improve your body’s function. Further treatment may also be recommended.
